Sorry. It was 80 degrees Fahrenheit outside in northern Indiana during the beginning of April, which is nearly unheard of. We were all outside getting rid of our winter-induced seasonal affective disorder. Read More >
It looks like the HTC Desire will be hitting Japanese shores very soon. Carrier Softbank will be releasing a WCDMA version of the HTC Desire sometime in April. This will be the first worthwhile Android phone to come to Japan, not including the Xperia X1o, since the dream of it ever being released when promised is kind of a joke at this point. Read More >
See that picture to your left there of that beautiful new Android Super-phone running 720p video out to a HD television? Well there won’t be anymore of those in the developer guide. That is Sprint’s new Super-phone the HTC Evo 4g which is the first 4g phone for Sprint as well as their first Android powered Super-phone. The developer guide is an interesting read if you are into coding for Android. Otherwise, as a casual user or even a super user (sorry for the joke we know it was lame), it is a pretty boring document. If you can’t resist or if you are a developer be sure to hit up the source link for a Google Document of the developer guide for the HTC Evo 4g. Now stop reading this and go build some awesome 720p capable apps. Read More >
Motorola’s iDEN i1 phone has been around only for a few weeks and went from rumor to reality in a very short period of time. Now we are seeing what carriers it will be hitting and it looks like the news is not good if you don’t live in the south eastern United States. The first carrier that will see this device will be SouthernLINC Wireless (Haven’t heard of them? It’s okay we hadn’t either). Read More >
Earlier this month, we heard that this update would be happening within the month and then it was put on hold once again with a “TBD” status leaving us with no clues as to when this would actually happen. Now, it looks like it is finally beginning to roll out as of yesterday evening. The following is what looks to be an internal Verizon email. This completely details the update and what you should and should not expect. Read More >
Chewing your fingernails waiting for the HTC Legend to arrive in the UK? Well it looks like your wait is almost over: we have heard from the Vodafone UK site that the Legend will be hitting stores on April 2nd and pre-orders will still be shipping out April 6th (because of Easter). We still have no word on when the Desire will be officially arriving on Vodafone UK, but are being reassured that it will be sometime in April. Read More >
As you all already know, fragmentation is a serious problem with the Android OS. As of right now, there are four different versions (1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1) of the operating system floating around between several devices. We are now hearing from Engadget that the Google team is taking great strides with the next version of the Android OS (Froyo) and that this issue will be resolved. The main problem with this is that Google is releasing software faster than the device manufacturer’s can keep up and push it to their phones. Read More >
About a year ago, Kyocera announced that they were going to throw their hat into the Android ring and it looks like they have finally done it. The phone is overall pretty underwhelming, the specs aren’t that great and it runs Donut. The main killer aspect of this device isn’t its specs or its sleek looks, it is the fact that it has a price tag under 300 dollars for a completely contract free unlocked device. For those of you who are interested in the specs of the device here is a nice overview in list format we made just for you. Read More >
It looks like AllDroid forum member Greek35T has ported a version of Sense UI to the Droid. This is really cool for a couple of reasons, mainly the fact of that it gives you Flash support (well Flash Lite at least). There are a slew of things that aren’t working as of right now, like you can place 3g calls but cannot receive them. Bluetooth and GPS are also out of the question right now as well as Airplane Mode. If you would like to check out the Flash capabilities in this ROM go ahead and hit the read more link, or if you are the kind of guy that likes flashing experimental ROM’s (we love it) then click the source link. If you are on Verizon and you have the Droid, Devour, or Droid Eris, you can use Skype officially through Verizon today for free Skype to Skype calls. If you have any other device or aren’t on Verizon there is always Fring if you feel like your mobile Skype needs aren’t being met. If you want to buy any of those phones there are handy links on the Skype page for Android. Hopefully this trend of Skype being a Verizon only Android app goes away pretty quickly. Let us know how you Verizon customers like your Skype in the comments. Read More >
